Qatar 2022 – don’t book your flights yet

The debate about the timing of the 2022 Qatar World Cup is such a farce. They won the bid with a clear mandate and commitment to hold the event in the summer.  Started a range of technology developments to address the 50 C deg temps that prevail. Initiated plans spend billions. Controversy (beat up?) and criticism built and despite conflict with established football competitions in Europe, little by little the way is being cleared for a shift of the 2022 Cup to winter time.  Jérôme Valcke, general secretary of FIFA, now openly says it would be better to hold the Cup during winter. “If you play between November 15 and the end of December that's the time when the weather conditions are best…That would be perfect for playing football." – Valcke is reported to have said on Radio France. It can't be far off before FIFA formally asks Qatar to agree to change the dates.

Quite a jab to those host competitors and to the principles of host selection.

An almost perfect scenario for Qatar.
